SOUND The sound of Tibetan singing bowls is becoming more popular.
Although few people know much about them, and there are
different views about their true purpose. The healing with sound
therapy is well known, and even if no healing takes place it is
safe and does not harm the client. This cannot always be said
about the singing bowls, which have unique sounds with
powerful vibrations. Very, very seldom will the Tibetan monks
reveal the secrets of the use of the bowls. I understand only a
few masters have learned from them. The Tibetan monks are in a
higher state of consciousness and of a higher vibration than most
of us have attained. So those powerful sacred sound rituals
could be harmful to us if used incorrectly. They consider that the
knowledge of a secret ritual by them could be a curse for an
outsider. If you question them concerning the sacred use of the
bowls they reply that they are good for eating out of. It is
understood that the monks can produce creative as well as
destructive sounds. In fact, the root sound of destructive sounds
could wipe out the world and the universe.
The use of singing bowls for healing purposes is not very widely
known and most therapists use them in conjunction with other
modalities. As said earlier, their sound is very powerful and is to
be respected. For instance, do not use the bowls on joints unless
you are experienced and they are very small bowls. This could
be painful and could cause swelling. You constantly have to
observe if the sound is not intrusive or objectionable to the client.
When you are using the singing bowls, the client can only feel
them and you have to use your judgment and be in constant
contact with your client by intuition, observation and dialogue.
Your body and spirit are influenced by the sound emitted by the
singing bowls. Their harmonious sound patterns instil a feeling
of vast space and intense peace. A sense of well being is felt
that will remain with you after the sound session is finished. This
feeling is only one part of your deep relaxation, the other is
brought about by the harmonically unique vibrations of the
sound of the bowls, which spread through your body thereby
reaching all of your cells. This facilitates your body's natural
harmonic operative vibrations, thus giving you peace and
opening your body's "self healing ability".
After reading this paper, do not consider yourself to be skilful
enough to use the outlined practices on a client. The practitioner
will require further study and experience. Also, do not promise a
client anything, and don't say you can fix this or that because
somebody else has done it. You can only claim what you have
actually achieved yourself. Hence, a client should look for a
therapist like that, and who has integrity and uses strong intent.
Let us say you have been informed and let us now examine the
healing possibilities of the singing bowls further
